Playing Catch-Up

Well, hey there! Remember me?

As I have been consuming most of my free time with hitting some freelance deadlines, I have neglected my little blog. Working and drawing isn’t the ONLY thing I have been doing, though!

1.) I’ve been enjoying walking around the city. Coop is moving from his awesome house in Old City Philadelphia next month, so I am trying to soak up all the fun things within walking distance while I can.

Ikea and Fro Yo kinda day….

2.) I’ve also been attempting to enjoy the Flyers….although they are making it reallllly really difficult for me.

…I even turned the boy onto it! He’s been to a good amount of games with me as we have season tickets. He has lived in Philly for like seven years now, and he (thankfully) wasn’t a Bruins fan, or had really followed hockey much before. And now he bought a Jagr shirt at the last game! Stacy thinks he is a keeper.

3.) I got new business cards, mailing labels, and blank notecards.

4.) Also, food and drink has consumed the other portion of my life while not drawing, working, or workin’ it out.

I won a giveaway on Alyssa’s blog….well, sort of! The number of entrants was wrong when she first did the random number giveaway, so it totally wasn’t fair to the others that entered. My girl did the right thing (and apologized profusely)….aaaand Lauren from Sharkies still hooked me up anyway! Verdict? Get these organic, delish fruit chews and energy chews if you see them in stores. LOVE them, can’t get enough!!!

Made some pasta salad with kidney beans, black beans, garbanzo beans, roasted peppers, onions, and garlic, and veggie rotini. And avocado. Always. Psh.

Tone It Up inspired me to make a roasted portobello mushroom, stuffed with red quinoa and veggies…a new fave!

I fell in love with Wegman’s, just like I knew I would….

AND they had pumpkin ale (my fave)….a really good one!….amongst all of the summer brews.

And also have started brewing my own kombucha each week!!! Anyone interested in a how-to? The pictures may terrify you a bit….that “scoby”? Yeah, it’s a huge mushroom-like culture that grows a baby (also a huge mushroom-like culture) on top. Scary!!! But it tastes just like store-bought for the most part and will definitely save me some bucks so that I am not buying (freakin’ delicious) Synergy all the time. I added pineapple juice to some of my last batch. So good!!

My dad, the antique car guru, has a customer from Italy who delivered these awesome little guys to me…..luckily, the cookbook has some English. Not so luckily, the coffee, which is “not like that dark water you Americans drink,” is straight-up in Italian. Anyone care to interpret??

I also have made a giant, shrimp-infused version of my Roasted Veggie Pad Thai. I would like to marry that TJ’s Soyaki sauce. Oh. Man.

Saturday night we went to Philadephia Bar & Restaurant again….because after watching my boy Guy on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives eat the best looking mac and cheese around, we decided we needed some fried mac and cheese balls. And crab guacamole. Best idea ever. AND look what is happening in two weekends?! So there.

AND Sunday brunches with Coop have been amazing lately. Like this past one at Revolution House. Totally my new favorite Bloody Marys in Philly.

Eggs in Purgatory! Similar to the Shakshuka I love at nearby Cafe Ole.

We made new friends and learned about traffic apps...

I don’t normally do sweet, or cocktails at all for that matter, but this pineapple juice & Chambord deliciousness our bartender whipped up for me was uh. mazing. Despite what my face would infer, here…

And has anyone else ever heard of a Bloody Maria?! Aka, a Bloody Mary…with tequila! Be still my tequila-lovin’ heart.

Okay, I am still a ball of sweat after a kickbutt BodyCombat class and I have some freelance to work on….and some Flyers to cheer on. Later gators!

Let me know if any of you foodies want a “how to make your own kombucha” post….it’s super easy, albeit a little time-consuming!

Super Bowl, Slim Down, and a Fashion Question

Super Bowl

So my Super Bowl menu was pretty great…even if the Pats didn’t win.

Luckily, Coop didn’t jump off a ledge…although I was nervous there for a second.

Gronk (my fellow Arizona alum) fans!

The day started off with a veggie-filled omelette, one of Coop’s specialties. I sauteed, he chopped the onion….my most-hated kitchen job!!!….and then I left the rest up to him.

Um, how do boys make such perfect omelettes? Mine NEVER stay together this beautifully. I will keep him.

Much wine and beer was consumed alongside all of this:

Buffalo Chicken Eggrolls!
Pepper Jack Tostitos, Homemade Pita Chips,
and a healthified Spinach, Artichoke, and Feta Dip

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie….dough. YUM.

Layered Taco Dip, Eggrolls, and a Creeper

Let me know if you want any of the recipes!

Tone It Up 7 Day Slim Down

Thanks to all of the amazing indulgences via my past weekend, today is my first day of the Tone It Up 7 Day Slim Down. Not trying to lose any weight, but I am going to follow the plan as best as possible in order to prime myself to eat more Lean, Green, and Clean. It’ll help get rid of that bloated feeling and  will help make healthy, clean eating even more of a habit. This is a bit of a test run, as I plan on doing the Slim Down again before my Vegas vacation (flights booked! Woop woop!) to detox and tighten up a bit before a glorious week of bikinis, drinks, and little dresses. Oh, and I plan on indulging hardcore at my favorite chef’s restaurant. Mesa Grill!

Somehow I have never been here despite my insane love for Las Vegas, Bobby Flay and southwestern food.

Tonight I plan on taking an idea from Bess (she is on day two of her second 7DSD…her posts about it are great!) and making enough protein pancakes for the week and freezing them so that I can just microwave them in the morning. Easy peasy.

I only wish mine could look as pretty as hers.

Oops.

Any Tone It Up girls out there, let me know if you are doing the Slim Down this week! I know a lot of people are doing it to finish off strong in the Toned In ’12 Challenge (and just in time for Valentine’s Day).

Fashion Question

Quick question to my fashionista readers who are much more savvy than me when it comes to this stuff:

I have a $100 J.Crew gift card. I collect lots of bracelets (big layering fiend) and I have loved this since I saw it on {av}’s blog

I think it may be pretty to layer with this Marc By Marc Jacobs one that I have. Or it may be overkill?

BUT! I have also been wanting a new “statement” necklace, and I kinda like this one.

What do you think? I am envisioning my vacation and which I would want to wear more.

Have a fabulous day!!! xoxo

Of Possible Interest: (Artsy ones!)

"Will Run for Beer"

Heyo!

Hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend! Get ready for a big recap of mine.

Wednesday:
My weekend started off Wednesday night…after a 40 minute treadmill workout including Tabata intervals, incline walking, and jogging, and all I could think about doing was lying on my couch, cuddled up with some beers and American Horror Story. And that is what we did on the biggest bar night of the year. Soooo cool, right?

Coop and I continued our beer taste-testing with these guys:

Black Sheep’s Monty Python’s Holy Grail Ale

This one was a little bitter for me…I think the aroma carried over into the taste, which made it taste more bitter than it actually was, maybe? Sweet at first sip, and then that bitter aftertaste. It was totally drinkable, don’t get me wrong, but probably my least favorite of the bunch. Exhibit A of buying a product due to the label. I’m a marketer’s dream.

Blue Point’s Toasted Lager

This one was tasted right after the Holy Grail Ale, and I liked it much better. Easy to drink and smooth, I loved the flavor of this one. The description on Blue Point’s site: “Copper in color, our most popular and unique brew is made from six different malts, including English Pale, Crystal, Munich, Carapils, Wheat, and Belgian Caravienna. Toasted Lager’s balanced flavor of malt and hops makes for easy drinking and the special lager yeast we use produces an exceptional, long-lasting smooth finish.”

Magic Hat’s hI.P.A (Fall I.P.A on Tour)

I like MH’s Encore (the Winter I.P.A on Tour) better, probably because it is a wheat I.P.A (and I LOVE wheat beers), but this one is great, too. Coop loves I.P.A’s and especially loved this one. Hoppy hopperoo. Love the artwork.

Thursday:
Thanksgiving in Baltimore was a great one, as usual. The food was out of this world, the wine was delicious, and the company was the best. Only picture I have of the food? My sister’s Oreo mousse that she stuffed her chocolate cupcakes with. Um, I imagine this is what a crack addiction is like. Oscar and I were eating this stuff by the spoon-and bowl?-ful, every time we opened the fridge and saw the huge container of it staring at us. Thanks for making a humungo batch of the mousse, little sister.

(Those may or may not be finger-dips you see in there…)

Friday:
On Friday, my dad and I went to the Flyers game to watch another amazing game. I have officially decided I want a Giroux Winter Classic jersey. I love lace-top jerseys!

(Source)

He was the Player of the Game….aaaand glad to see his Movember ‘stache is still in full force.

We went up to the Cadillac Grille during the first intermission/second period with my dad’s best friend, and Dad and I each enjoyed a Victory HopDevil while listening to live jazz and checking out great views of the city.

I have never been to the Grille during the day, and while I love the classy atmosphere mixed with the gorgeous city lights at night, it was cool to see it in daylight. Gorgeous day for November…I fear that this is the calm before the storm (aka East Coast Winter Hell).

One thing I love about Philly is how their sports complex houses three major stadiums…the Lincoln Financial Field (Eagles), Citizen’s Bank Park (Phillies), and the Wells Fargo Center (Flyers and Sixers) are all right there.

We enjoyed gazing at all the cars we will never be able to own, obviously the players’ parking lot.

While I avoided the crowds and took a much-needed yoga class with one of my favorite instructors and went to the hockey game on Black Friday, I did take advantage of the online sales….I got a sparkly dress for New Year’s Eve, a new Lululemon tank (no sale, but free shipping as always), and I have been eyeing a few cameras for some time now. I wanted something pretty compact; smaller than my DSLR, but better than my sand-riddled Nikon point-and-shoot. Since I am no professional and don’t remember much from my college photography class days, I settled on a Sony Nex-5. I had heard, and seen, good things, and decided it was a better value, and probably better camera, than the super-cute Nikon1 I had been lusting over. So Best Buy, thanks for the sweeeet deal on my new Nex-5 (with two lenses, a memory card, an external flash, AND a case).

Still learning the ins and outs of it, but I took it for a couple test runs this weekend, and I was pleased!

Saturday:
Saturday morning, I woke up and headed to the gym for another 2+ hour BodyCombat/BodyPump challenge. And the instructors put us to work! It got to the point where they had to open the gym doors and were taking bets on who would throw up first, including them, ha! It was super intense and I loved it, but I knew I would be sore after. And….I am. Hi, delayed onset muscle soreness.

Coop’s band had a show that night, so after picking up my new camera in Delaware (no tax….waddup!!!) I headed up to Philly. We got there early, posted at the bar, ordered the Crab Cheddar Mac and Cheese, and I had a local Yards Brawler (can you tell lots of beer was consumed this weekend? Sheesh…those “Will run for beer” shirts may be made for me) while we watched Stevie Wonder and Simon & Garfunkel live concerts on the TVs.

Biggest chunks of crab EVER! And lots of Old Bay

The show was over pretty early, so we were able to go out to meet up with some people from the shore house afterwards. Jolly’s Piano Bar and Locust Rendezvous, not sure you were quite ready for the House House. < the 2011 Avalon house nickname

Address blacked out…safety first!

We haven’t seen most of the crew since the summer, so it was great to see everyone! And we missed everyone that wasn’t there. It ended up being a later night than planned, but we had a great time, obviously. (Thanks for the pics, Mur!)

Oh, summer. <3

Sunday:
Started off the day with the best Buffalo Chicken ‘za in the world (since we got there too late last night and were still craving it in the morning). Breakfast of champions. I’m obsessed with Soho Pizza (another go-to spot of ours), and it was even nice enough to sit outside!

And my little surprise I mentioned last week?

Merry early Christmas, Coop.

After pizza, we took the subway to Broad Street for some tailgate action. My Philadelphia-living cohort is actually from New Hampshire and is a Patriots fan (the horror!!). I thought it would be a fun thing for us to do since the Pats don’t come here often and he had only seen them in action during a preseason game a few years ago. A little healthy competition, Him vs. Her….and yet of course, knowing my Eagles, I didn’t expect a big win (good thing…we didn’t get one). It was still a really fun game to go to, our seats were amazing, and I even enjoyed watching my fellow Arizona alum Gronk continue to kick ass and take names with Tom Brady.

We also got to meet up with a couple other Avalon friends at the game! Missed you guys!!!

Monday:
Anyone partaking in Cyber Monday today? Seems like all the sites started Black Friday early this year and run sales through today. I did get a couple BIC Bands today. I have been wanting to try them forEVER and finally bought the Gunmetal and Teal sparkly bands…one may be for a gift.  ;)

They apparently stay in place through everything, and my crazy floppy hair needs that for Combat, Zumba, yoga, running, etc. AND they are cute, AND they donate proceeds to a different charity every month. They are offering free shipping today and a special gift with a $50+ purchase, so if you are already a fan or have been wanting to try these babies like me, get ‘em now! Looks like a bunch of colors are back in stock.

Tonight I will be ordering my first round of Christmas cards and gift tags (did you notice the one up above?) and I will post the image of the 2011 card I have finished soon.

WOO, that was another loooong post. I give you props if you’re still with me here.

Have a good week! xoxox

I Think I’ll Go to Boston….

Hollaaa!

It’s finally the end of the work week. Wahooo!

The Friday Five

1.) What I’m Reading:

Put down the last book I was reading…for some reason, it was just taking me a while to get into it, so I started another book in the meantime before I revisit it.

The Rum Diary.

So far, loving this! And I am reading it way quicker. Can’t believe Hunter S. Thompson started this novel when he was just 22. Insane!

2.) What I’m Listening To:

Childish Gambino!

And Howard Best of the Week, as per usual. Chris Cornell and Chaz Bono!

3.) What I’m Watching:

Catching up on my gagillion shows, as always…and one I have failed to mention before here…I’m just loving New Girl. Girl crush!

(Source)

This episode….absolutely my fave so far. Hilarious.

4.) What I’m Eating:

This mornin’….Pumpkin Protein Oats. Plus my favorite Twinings Green Tea with Jasmine (and honey).

But I am way more excited for the meals I will be eating this weekend!!! :)

5.) What I’m Pinning:

Snickerdoodle Pumpkin Ice Cream Sandwiches…WHAAAAT.

(Source)

Also these trees. I LOVE driftwood.

(Source)

They remind me of my new candle holder from Anthropologie.

It’s nice to have a baby sister that works there. ;)

Oh yeah….and as for the hockey game last night….it was my two homes, head to head! Philly killed the tie with only 18 seconds left in a very uncharacteristic last-second win. SO exciting! Matt Read is pretttty phenomenal. Sorry ‘Zona….I love you, but Philly sports will always have my heart. <3

Crab Fries were obviously consumed.

Also, Giroux is rocking a serious Movember ‘stache. Gotta love that.

Any fun plans for the weekend? I am going on a mini-getaway to BOSTON for the first time ever (in case you didn’t realize that already from my “hints” and post title)!! We have so many things planned, and I cannot wait to recap it all! Any places I should try to hit up while I am there? SO EXCITED. :)

See ya next week, babes!
